our mission: to help children become healthy eaters & give children a lifelong love of working in the kitchen
cooking together provides quality time
it often allows kids to relax & share what's going on in their lives
taking photos while you're in the kitchen will spark more ideas while you're scrolling; use those photos to make a family recipe book and include the photos - what a priceless treasure
cooking expands kids' palates - when they make a new food on their own, kids are more likely to eat it (or at least give it a try)
boost kitchen confidence early
preparing food helps kids appreciate their parents; healthy, tasty meals take time and effort to prepare and it's never too early for kids to see healthy habits in action
teaching kids about your family's culture with an authentic recipe or two is fun for everyone involved
kitchen skills are a basic but important life skill that can help teach math, reading comprehension, following directions, cleanliness, safety, grocery shopping and even chemistry
when I was a little kid, I remember pretending to be Julia Child at the kitchen table, and whipping myself up the most delicious peanut butter and jelly sandwiches you could ask for! I would pretend I had a live studio audience and I attempted my very best English accent to seal the deal. Oh the memories! My parents both encouraged me to spend time in the kitchen with them since I can remember, and every party we ever had it was always the most popular room in the house
after having four children of my own, cooking for my family for over 20 years already, I decided to go to culinary school. I was the exact same age as my childhood mentor Julia, and I followed in her footsteps and attended Le Cordon Bleu. She went to the one in Paris, I was here in Chicago, but I could feel her spirit inside my heart every time I walked into that school. Graduating was one of the proudest moments in my life. Thankfully, my mom was there to see it and watch me accomplish such an enormous goal I had set for myself. (I had a 3 year old, 6 year old, and 11 year old at home when I decided to be a full time culinary student) None of them could be at my graduation ceremony, due to a tornado hitting all of Chicagoland that day; that's honestly a long story for another time
one of my children followed in my footsteps and went to culinary school. He is now a successful, hard-working chef and is still an amazing sous chef in Mom's kitchen. Another one of my kids helped me with a project close to our hearts; we've started a pop-up pet bakery. There has certainly been a lot of quality bonding time in our family's kitchen. I hope you will make some memories
